    Mangalem Quarter

    Mangalemi

Mangalem Quarter climbs in terraces from the Osum to the castle hill and was home to Berat’s Muslim community; since 2008 it has been part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its 18th–19th-century houses, stone below and timber above, stack up so many windows that Berat is called the “city of a thousand windows”.
